Maggie Lind is a musician, teacher, and dance caller based in Portland, Oregon. Through private lessons, workshops, and the Portland String Band Class, she helps people build musical skills, learn traditional repertoire, and find community through playing music together.
She has been teaching guitar and old time banjo for more than two decades. Her teaching emphasizes listening, rhythm, musical lineage, and the joy of making music with other people. She teaches students of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced players looking to deepen their understanding of old time music and banjo.

Cookhouse “Lately Tuned” Available Now
Lately Tuned is the debut album from Portland, Oregon, trio Cookhouse, featuring Sophie Enloe, Maggie Lind, and Patrick Lind. They have been playing fiddle tunes together in kitchens, at jam sessions, at dances, and in classrooms for over twenty years. Lately Tuned captures that long friendship in sound, offering a collection of old time tunes, songs, and original compositions.

Black Lives Matter
Neighborly Music stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. It is impossible to talk honestly about traditional American music without acknowledging the racism and inequality that have shaped whose music has been preserved, celebrated, credited, and taught.
As a white student and teacher of old time music, and of the banjo in particular, I believe it is important to acknowledge the Black origins of the banjo and the enormous contributions of Black musicians to American traditional music, as well as the ways those contributions have often been erased, obscured, or exploited.
