This class is for fiddlers who can pick up a tune in a group setting in one hour and feel comfortable trying to lead a tune in a slow jam.
You’ve got the basics of fiddling, but still want to participate in Stringband Class to meet other old-time musicians that share a common repertoire, and master advanced old-time fiddle techniques that will allow you to be even more successful and confident when playing.
HOW and WHAT
We will learn 6 tunes over the course of 8 weeks. Through these tunes and some exercises, we will continue to develop the essential techniques required for all fiddling: tone, intonation, and rhythm. We will work on more advanced old-time fiddling techniques such as droning, speed, melodic and bowing variations, double-stops, and pulsing.
In addition, students enrolled in this class will:
- Have access to Stringband Class student login pages with source music and demonstration videos for the tunes in the current session
- Focus on playing in small, multi-instrument groups at the 4th class meeting
- Participate in the final class potluck and jam session
Tuesdays 7:00 – 8:30pm
